Rice Military History
The Rice Military community was named in two parts; one through a family name and the other due to it's location. The name "Rice" came from the family that lived in this area, which included William Marsh Rich who founded the nearby Rice University.
"Military" came from it's location. In World War 1, this area was adjacent to a military camp, named Camp Logan, which served as a training camp for the US Army.
Homes in Rice Military
Most of the homes in the Rice Military area are townhomes and single-family homes. Over 400 homes occupy this conveniently located community, with the average appraisal of $300k in 2008.
You'll discover that most of these rebuilt homes are built in the contemporary style. Most of the new construction in the area has been through developers who purchased land, tore down the original dwellings, and rebuilt nice townhome communities with stucco & brick exteriors.
Many residents of Rice Military enjoy close access to Downtown Houston, while also conveniently located to the world renknown Houston Medical District; one of the biggest medical districts in the nation.

Children living in Rice Military will attend the Houston Independent School district. This school district serves a vast majority of the city of Houston, while each suburb around the city has it's own district.
